The court sentenced participants of protests against the border agreement between Ingushetia and Chechnya to real terms

The Zheleznovodsk City Court of the Stavropol Territory sentenced Aslan Aushev and Bagautdin Myakiev, participants in protests against the border agreement between Chechnya and Ingushetia. They were given real sentences under the article on the use of violence against a government official, reports MBKh Media .

Aushev received a year and eight months in a penal colony, Myakiev received a year and 10 months in a penal colony.

On February 18, the court sentenced three more protesters to real terms. Before this, 11 people were convicted.

In December 2019, eight leaders of protests against amendments to the Referendum Law and for the resignation of the head of Ingushetia, Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, became involved in a criminal case about organizing an extremist community.

In September 2018, the heads of Chechnya and Ingushetia, Ramzan Kadyrov and Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, signed an agreement to secure the border between the regions. The republics carried out an “equal exchange of non-residential territories” in the Nadterechny district of Chechnya and the Malgobek district of Ingushetia.

After this, protests began in Ingushetia. In March 2019, a rally began in Magas against amendments to the Referendum Law, which relate to changing the borders and status of the republic. The protesters were dissatisfied with the new version of the law and demanded Yevkurov’s resignation. They tried to disperse the rally several times. The protesters agreed to disperse only after the authorities promised them to coordinate a new protest. The city hall eventually refused .
