In Ivanovo, the jury acquitted a pre-trial detention center employee in the case of the death of a prisoner after a beating

The jury in the Oktyabrsky District Court of Ivanovo unanimously acquitted former employee of pre-trial detention center-1 Igor Erokhin, accused of injuring prisoner A.L. the injury from which he died. This was reported by Advokatskaya Gazeta.

According to investigators, on February 27, 2018, pre-trial detention center officer K.O. decided to transfer A.L. to another cell, but the accused refused. The newspaper clarifies that the prisoner also threatened “self-mutilation.” After this, several jailers decided to talk to him again, among them was the deputy head of the pre-trial detention center.

As stated in the indictment cited by the publication, during the conversation Erokhin twice hit the handcuffed A.L. hand on the head, causing him to hit the back of his head against the office wall. The prisoner was diagnosed with a closed craniocerebral injury, which resulted in swelling and displacement of parts of the brain with impaired circulation. A.L. hospitalized, but he died two months later without regaining consciousness.

The jailer himself claims that he did not want to cause serious injuries to the prisoner and only hit him twice on the cheek because he was “acting aggressively.”

The defense argued that Erokhin had the keys in his hand and he could not have hit A.L. open palm. The lawyers brought in additional experts who established that the prisoner was beaten by other pre-trial detention center employees who decided to frame their colleague, the publication notes.

Erokhin was accused of exceeding official authority and causing bodily harm resulting in death (points “a” and “c” of Part 3 of Article 286, Part 4 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code). The pre-trial detention center employee was under house arrest.
