The World Modern Pentathlon Championships have been moved from China due to the coronavirus, Inside the Games reports. The competition was to take place in the city of Xiamen from May 25 to May 31, 2020. Due to the postponement, Xiamen will host the competition in 2022.

The World Championships have been moved to Cancun, Mexico, but the exact dates of the upcoming competitions will be determined later. Due to the spread of the virus, Chinese authoritieshave suspended all sporting competitions in the country.

An outbreak of a new coronavirus (2019-nCoV) was recorded at the end of December 2019 in the most populous city of Central China - Wuhan with a population of 12 million.
