As of February 29, 43 people have died in Iran from pneumonia caused by the coronavirus, Reuters reports, citing a statement by representatives of the Iranian Ministry of Health.
Over the past day, nine deaths and 205 confirmed cases of infection have been recorded. In total, according to representatives of the Iranian Ministry of Health, 593 cases of coronavirus infection have been confirmed in the country.
Among those infected with the coronavirus, the Deputy Minister of Health of Iran and five MPs, one of whom, according to local media, died.
In turn, BBC Persian, citing sources close to the Iranian Ministry of Health, reports that there may be significantly more deaths from coronavirus than officially announced - at least 210 people, as of February 28.
