A hostage-taking case was opened against a Kazan resident after threatening to blow up his family if he was not given 10 million rubles, alcohol and drugs

In Kazan, a criminal case was opened against a local resident who took his wife and two young daughters hostage, according to the website of the Investigative Committee for Tatarstan.

The Investigative Committee clarifies that on the night of March 2 in Kazan, a 32-year-old man seized his wife and children and demanded to pay him 10 million rubles. Otherwise, he promised to kill his relatives.

The case was opened under paragraphs “e” and “g” of Part 2 of Article 206 of the Criminal Code (taking hostage a minor, as well as two or more persons).

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tatarstan told Tatar-info that the man wounded his wife with a knife and threatened to injure his three- and eight-year-old children. The woman, having caught the moment, still managed to write to a relative, and she called the police.

When police arrived at the scene, the suspect refused to let the family go and threatened to explode a gas cylinder if he was not provided with alcohol and drugs.

“The deputy head of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for Kazan, police colonel Sergei Chankin, managed to establish a dialogue with the suspect and enter the apartment. After lengthy negotiations, thanks to his professional actions, as well as the help of psychologists from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and one of the neighbors, the attacker was detained and taken to the police department,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.
