The Moscow City Hall refused to approve a rally against amendments to the Constitution, which include the possibility of resetting presidential terms. This was reported on Twitter by the Civil Society movement, whose participants submitted a notification to hold the action.
The administration cited work to prevent coronavirus in Moscow as the reasons for the refusal. At the same time, the action was planned for the number of participants up to 4,500 people, since earlier Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin signed a decree prohibiting the holding of mass events of more than five thousand people.
- On March 10, Vladimir Putin supported the amendment of deputy Valentina Tereshkova, who proposed giving the president the opportunity to serve two new terms after the adoption of amendments to the Constitution. Sobyanin called the ban on Putin being elected a “destabilizing factor.”
- In connection with the amendment, a notice of holding a rally on March 21 and 22 was submitted by activists of the Civil Society movement of Mikhail Svetov. Also, notification of the March 21 rally was submitted by Open Russia activist Tatyana Usmanova, Party of Change member Maria Kuznetsova and activist Evgeny Ovcharov.
