Yakutsk authorities found no violations at the holding point for homeless animals, where animal rights activists found a container with dozens of corpses of dogs and cats.

The press service of the head and government of Yakutia stated that the animals who were quarantined at the holding point were euthanized due to the threat of the spread of the rabies virus, writes News.Ykt . Therefore, the veterinary department of the republic took timely and necessary measures. Representatives of the prosecutor's office and police said that an investigation into the euthanization of the animals is underway.

Volunteer Zlata Sycheva from Yakutsk told Takim Dela that a container with dead cats and dogs was found at the animal holding center. Volunteers counted 71 living dogs in outdoor enclosures.

According to her, animal rights activists were not allowed into the territory, allegedly because of the rabies quarantine. “Apparently, this quarantine was invented as a trigger to make room for other animals that they are obliged to catch. We don’t have a shelter in the city,” Sycheva said.

The Department of Veterinary Medicine of Yakutia stated that there are two containers on the territory of the holding point. In one, which was opened by animal rights activists, there were more than 100 animals that died after accidents, from diseases, and were euthanized with the consent of the owners. The bodies were prepared for disposal. The second container, to which access was prohibited, contained the carcasses of 153 dogs and 48 cats that had contact with a dog with rabies.

At the beginning of February, animal rights activists spoke about violations of the conditions of keeping stray animals at a holding center in Yakutsk. They said that the animals were constantly freezing and hungry, getting sick and infecting each other, since there was no veterinarian there who could provide help.
