SK completed the investigation of the case of historian Sokolov accused of killing a graduate student

The investigation in the criminal case against the former associate professor of St. Petersburg State University Oleg Sokolov, accused of the murder of a graduate student Anastasia Eshchenko, was completed. This was reported by TASS with reference to the official representative of the Investigative Committee Svetlana Petrenko.

“In the Main Investigation Department of the IC of Russia, an investigation into a criminal case was completed against the former associate professor of St. Petersburg State University Oleg Sokolov, accused of committing crimes under Part 1 of Art. 105 and part 1 of Art. 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“murder”, “illegal acquisition and storage of weapons”), ”Petrenko said.

Information about the end of the investigation was confirmed by MBH Media Lawyer Sokolov Alexander Piluev. He added that the criminal case was sent to the prosecutor to resolve the issue of approving the indictment.

The assistant professor of St. Petersburg State University Oleg Sokolov was detained on the morning of November 9, he was discovered in the river Moika with a backpack, in which there were severed female hands and a traumatic pistol. Sokolov was taken to the hospital with hypothermia, during a search in his house, part of the female body with a cut head, arms and legs was found.

The deceased was 24-year-old Anastasia Eshchenko, in 2016 she graduated with honors from the Institute of the History of St. Petersburg State University. The murder of the girl happened on November 7th. Sokolov pleaded guilty to murder.

On November 11, the Oktyabrsky District Court of St. Petersburg arrested Sokolov. At the meeting, the historian stated that during the conflict, during which he shot Yoshchenko, she threatened him with a knife.
