In a matter of days, Russia has entered the self -isolation mode - the government closed the border with Belarus, Georgia, Poland, Norway, Kazakhstan, and the Baltic countries; The message is still preserved only with Finland and Azerbaijan, but, most likely, and this is not for long - the Finnish authorities have already announced plans to close the borders. The very next day, the government decided to close from March 18 entry for foreigners .
The Russian authorities here are not at all in the lead - Denmark, Czech Republic, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, announced the closure of borders with neighboring countries long before they were quarantined. Almost immediately, the European Union announced the quarantine for a month, before that the United States was closed to the country. It makes no sense to engage in listing, the list of closures and restrictions is replenished rapidly, and it is quite possible that by the end of the week we can see a world consisting of states, isolated as decisively as ever in history. It is possible that the regions will begin to fence away from each other - including in Russia.
The closure of the borders for ten years, if not more, served as an imaginary apex of Putin’s twisting of nuts, was worn in liberal-intellectual circles with an ominous foreboding. As it were, it was implied that this is the last muck, on which the regime will be decided, a line, after which the most trace of hope will be lost. Freedom of departure is perhaps the only one of the post -Soviet conquests, whose value was unconditional for everyone.
But the boundaries are closed in a completely everyday mode, and citizens not only do not protest, but on the contrary, approve the actions of the authorities with concentrated people. It is amazing how simple, it turns out, this is done. Neither discussion in parliament, nor even the president’s appeal - only a few bureaucratic orders are needed, and no one goes anywhere. Moreover, restrictions are imposed on foreigners, they are forbidden, for example, to go to museums - and this is also perceived by everyone for granted, as a completely ordinary thing.
It is somewhat surprising that Russia in this situation was generally in the global trend, although with obvious reluctance - at the moment when both the West and the East were already overlapping the message and canceled mass events, Vladimir Putin still dismissed the problem ; The chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko, to the proposal of Oleg Deripaska to put the country to quarantine reacted condescendingly -no need to scare. The conservative part of Russian society was already ready to declare coronavirus the next “Churchill’s fiction in the 18th”, at worst by the US biological weapons .
