Russia sent doctors and medical equipment to Italy to help fight coronavirus

Updated . In total, nine military aircraft were sent to Italy, on which there are about 100 virologists.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation sent a group of military doctors and the necessary equipment to Italy to assist in the fight against coronavirus. The first two Il-76 aircraft took off on the afternoon of March 22 from the Chkalovsky military airfield to the Italian Air Force air base near Rome.

In total, the agency plans to send eight mobile teams to Italy with specialists in the field of virology and epidemiology with international experience in combating epidemics. Automotive aerosol disinfection complexes and other medical equipment will also be sent to help.

On March 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin phoned Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and offered to help the country fight the virus.

Italy is one of the hardest hit countries from the coronavirus pandemic. More than 53.5 thousand people were infected there. 4825 people died, more than six thousand recovered.
