While restaurants and fitness centers are on the verge of bankruptcy, there is a stir in the Internet trading. This is evidenced by the results of the study of the IT company "Evotor", which compared sales in different segments after the introduction of restrictive measures in the capital. In an interview with the Money magazine on the Republic Platform, the general director of Evotor Andrei Romanenko talks about the new consumer behavior in the conditions of quarantine, explains why, in this situation, the state should support retailers like Hoff and Leroy Merlin, and predicts the fall of one of the sectors of the consumer market of Moscow at 100%.
-What segments of small and medium-sized businesses turned out to be the most vulnerable due to the current situation?
- First of all, the current situation, of course, affected travel agencies. And with them - on airlines, but this, of course, is already a large business.
In second place - HoReCa: hotels, restaurants, cafes. Both because of the fall of tourist traffic, and because now people now go to restaurants and cafes. At the same time, delivery is working well now. Although she also falls, because people are afraid to order food from restaurants.
The third injured sector is the service sector. People attend less beauty salons, not only because they are afraid to go out. A similar situation was both in 1998 and in 2008. In difficult conditions, when you do not understand what will happen tomorrow, everyone is trying to save where they can.
Also, among the main victims are the event agency and all sectors, one way or another related to the organization of events. The other day, fitness centers and cinemas replenished this list, in a couple of days restaurants can join them. Even if the government does not close them, restaurateurs themselves will do it themselves, because they cannot incur constant losses in the absence of customers.
It is difficult to attribute development to small and medium -sized businesses, but it also falls into the category of victims. But I think that he will be provided with state support.
And, of course, large manufacturers have large losses that supplied different products for all spheres that I listed above.
- Can you bring data on a decrease in attendance and the number of sales?
-We compared the number of purchases at Moscow retail outlets from March 16 to 22 from a week from 9 to 15th. In most segments of trade and services of services over the past week, the number of purchases has fallen. In non -net supermarkets and minimarkets - by 13%, in clothing and shoes stores - by 25–35%, in beauty salons - by 15–20%.
The attendance of shopping centers in Moscow also fell throughout last week. Last weekend, the attendance of the shopping center decreased by 20% compared to average values in February-March. In the whole, in Russia, the traffic highway fell by 15% in the last weekend. Although not only the epidemic affects the reduction in the attendance of shopping centers, but, as we understand, in general, the dollar exchange rate and an incomprehensible situation - when employees do not understand what will happen to their employer further.
Of course, after gender holidays, a decline in purchasing activity is traditionally observed. In addition, on weekends, people have already begun to go to the cottages, and it is clear that traffic is moving away from large cities. But if we take analytics in previous years, then the fall was not as significant as now.
- You say that the fall became noticeable after March 8, while the first cases of coronavirus in Russia were detected in February. Then the changes in the behavior of consumers were not so strong?
- No, the main panic began on the 13-16th.
- Is this mainly due to coronavirus or also with the fall of the ruble course?
- I think that both the virus and the course have influenced. And, of course, the panic that is heated in social networks.
-Are there any sectors who, on the contrary, win from this situation?
