The project draws on computing power from around the world to computer-simulate the functioning of protein molecules that are involved in the suppression of the immune system by COVID-19. For Folding@Home, resources have been allocated that will allow computing operations at speeds up to 3.6 petaflops.
The provider provided capacities based on NVIDIA Tesla V100d 32Gb graphics accelerators, united by a high-speed network of 100 Gigabits. This will add computing power to the Folding@Home project, to which research laboratories connect and provide data for calculations.
“In the current situation, it is important to join forces in order to save the lives and health of people. We decided to join a project that is working on studying the COVID-19 virus and finding a cure for it. The project is open, anyone can share computing power and contribute to the fight against the new virus,” said Oleg Motovilov, director of the MTS cloud direction.
The Folding@Home project is a distributed computing platform for computer simulation. The project provides technological assistance to researchers by providing computing power. At the moment, laboratories Bowman lab , Chodera lab , Voelz lab are participating in experiments to find a cure for coronavirus . The first projects are aimed at studying the processes of interaction of the coronavirus with the ACE2 receptor, which is present in the human body and through which the virus enters the cells.
