Karelian historian Yuri Dmitriev is asked to be transferred under house arrest. The petition addressed to the chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic Anatoly Skvasu appeared on the website Change.org.

The authors of the appeal are asking Dmitriev to change the preventive measure from the pre -trial detention center for house arrest. Activists note that the 64-year-old historian will meet the “peak of the growing pandemic of coronavirus” in the isolator. In their opinion, if the virus penetrates the insulator, then it "can spread with lightning speed and impress up to 100 % of the prisoners."

The initiators of the petition write that Dmitriev "does not pose any danger to society, and the state of health in the current situation, on the contrary, is subject to serious danger."

In 2016, Dmitrieva was accused of making pornography with the participation of the adoptive daughter. Almost two years ago, the court in Petrozavodsk fully justified the historian. The court considered that Dmitriev took off his daughter to control the instructions of the guardianship authorities. Later, the Supreme Court of Karelia canceled this decision. The investigation provided an audio recording of the conversation, where the girl allegedly claims that the adopted father touched her, "and this contact had a sexual character." According to the human rights center "Memorial", "Medical examination and psychological and psychiatric examination of the girl did not reveal any signs of violence in relation to her or psychological trauma."
