Partially paralyzed anarchist Ilya Romanov was released from punishment for health reasons

In Mordovia, the judge of the Temnikovsky District Court, Ivan Syulin, released anarchist Ilya Romanov, who was sentenced to serving a sentence in a strict regime colony, from punishment. This was told to OVD-Info by the lawyer of the convict Roman Kachanov.

The prosecution spoke in court against the release of Romanov from punishment. The representative of the administration of the medical institution of the Federal Penitentiary Service, where the convict is now, left the issue to the discretion of the court. The court agreed with the arguments of the defense, but did not decide on the immediate release of Romanov.

When this (the release of the anarchist - OVD-Info ) will happen is still unclear. If the prosecutor does not file an appeal, then after 10 days. If he submits, then when will the appeal be considered in the Supreme Court of the Republic of Mordovia. And when it will be considered, I do not know. Moreover, given the epidemiological and quarantine measures, this may be delayed indefinitely.

He also stressed that the defense petition was granted in part: the court released the anarchist only from the main punishment, that is, from imprisonment. Romanov was not released from an additional restriction on the use of the Internet.

The lawyer was not able to visit the client: the FSIN officials said that the institution had declared a quarantine, and now lawyers are not allowed to see the prisoners. Kachanov is going to appeal the actions of officials: the Supreme Court has already pointed out the illegality of such restrictions even during the quarantine period.

• At the end of February, the medical board recognized that Romanov could not serve his sentence in a colony for health reasons. After a stroke, which the anarchist suffered in October, he was partially paralyzed. At the same time, the employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service refused to give the convict medicines.
• The first case against Romanov was opened in 2013 after an explosion in a public garden in Nizhny Novgorod. Then the man lost his hand. Romanov claimed that a firecracker exploded in his hands. The investigation considered that he was preparing a terrorist attack (Article 205 of the Criminal Code). As a result, Romanov was sentenced to ten years in prison. Later, he was convicted in a second case: under the article on incitement to terrorism on the Internet (part 2 of article 205.2 of the Criminal Code).
