A third criminal case has been opened on Sakhalin against members of a family of Jehovah's Witnesses

In Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, an investigator from the FSB Investigation Department opened a criminal case under the article on participation in an organization recognized as extremist (Part 2 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) against local resident Tatyana Kulakova, a supporter of Jehovah’s Witnesses. The press service of the European Association of Jehovah's Witnesses reported this to OVD-Info.

In December 2018, a criminal case under the same article was opened against Kulakova’s husband, Sergei Kulakov, and in August 2019, against her son Dmitry Kulakov.

• According to the European Association of Jehovah's Witnesses, at least twenty cases are known in Russia where two or more members of the same family become defendants in criminal cases due to connections with a religious movement.
• On January 20, 2019, at least 11 searches were carried out in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Nevelsk, and the village of Nogliki in the Sakhalin Region of those suspected of involvement in Jehovah’s Witnesses. At one of the addresses, FSB officers stormed an apartment.
