“I have repeatedly said that for me a decision on where I will work and whether I will remain the governor of the Arkhangelsk region - this is the opinion of the residents of the region and, of course, the position of the President of Russia. For a number of sociological research, I understand that I need to turn to the president so that he would make a decision to prepare our region for the election of the governor and, on the basis of this, I write a resignation statement,” Oryolov said.

He thanked the inhabitants of the Arkhangelsk region, who "allowed the region to lead the region for eight years."

Putin accepted the resignation of Orlov. The head of the Nenets district Alexander Tsybulsky will temporarily lead the region, RIA Novosti said . Yuri Mostral was appointed to act as the governor of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, it follows from the information on the Kremlin’s website.

Orlov was appointed to the post of temporarily acting head of the region in 2012. Then he was approved in office. In 2015, he re -elected.

Orlov, despite the numerous protests of local residents and ecologists, supported the construction of a garbage training ground at Shies station, where it is planned to take waste from Moscow. Orlov called the garbage training ground "beautiful and interesting" investment project. Of particular criticism of the population was caused by what Igor Orlov called the “husky” protesters against the construction of the training ground.
