A third criminal case has been opened over fake news about coronavirus.

The initiation of a third criminal case for a fake about coronavirus (Article 207.1 of the Criminal Code) is reported by Mediazona with reference to the Investigative Committee for the Leningrad Region.

The case was initiated on the fact that an unidentified person published information that armored vehicles with weapons were stationed near the city of Volkhov in the Leningrad Region because of the coronavirus.

Today, the Investigative Committee opened a case under the same article for a video where fakes about the coronavirus are ridiculed.

• On April 1, 2020, Article 207.1 of the Criminal Code - “Public dissemination of knowingly false information about circumstances that pose a threat to the life and security of citizens that pose a threat to the life and security of citizens” came into force. The maximum penalty under the article is up to three years in prison.
• On April 3, it became known about the first criminal case under Article 207.1 of the Criminal Code. Activist Anna Shushpanova was searched. Now she is on trial as a witness.
