Mediazone: Investigative Committee opened a case for satire about fakes about coronavirus

The Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case for spreading false information about the coronavirus (Article 207.1 of the Criminal Code). This is reported by Mediazona with reference to the press service of the department.

The publication suggests that we are talking about a video posted by the satirist AlexanderThorn on his Twitter page. The video ridicules conspiracy theories, as well as fakes related to the coronavirus. So, the video says that the Masons are behind the creation of the virus, whose goal is to distract people from spreading information that the earth is flat.

• On April 1, 2020, Article 207.1 of the Criminal Code - "Public dissemination of knowingly false information about circumstances that pose a threat to the life and safety of citizens" came into force. The maximum penalty under the article is up to three years in prison.
• On April 3, it became known about the first criminal case under Article 207.1 of the Criminal Code. Activist Anna Shushpanova was searched. Now she is on trial as a witness.
