For ten (!) Years now, each on April 12, the project “Cosmonautics Day” has been a new entry. Three musicians from Siberia - Yegor Klochikhin , Vladimir Luchansky ( Bisamråtta , “GS”, “Intourist” and much more) and Vitaly Smirnov ( Thundaklap ) - lay out a new joint recording once a year - and unites these issues (in addition to the date and composition of the participants), perhaps the feeling of full musical freedom. As part of the project, the musicians studied the noise analog emboss, and the sweeping Krut-saber , and the instrumental building with a leading saxophone, and a rapid broken drama-beis . Vladimir Luchansky, saxophonist, guitarist and improviser, talked about how the project appeared and on what principles it is being built.

In 2009, I had a certain number of sketches that could not be attributed to any project where I participated. Then we just recently met Yegor Klochikhin , and I sincerely admired what he did in his project “The Last Vacations”, so I asked him to write drums for my electronic substrates. But when Yegor sent me ready tracks, there was much more than just drums, and it was just amazing.

I could no longer say who is actually the author here: it was clear that these paths - they could be heard on the very first release of the “Cosmonautics Day” - exclusively the fruit of joint work. Around the same time, my friends from the SO Far as I Know groups and “ordinary suspects” arranged a concert in a “stray dog”, and I suggested that they perform the third. The concert took place on April 12, 2010 - then we first played with Yegor together. This day has become the starting point for our joint creativity and at the same time gave the name to this project.

After that, we immediately began to appear a huge number of ideas regarding how to develop the project and what to do next. In 2011, Vitaly Smirnov joined us, with whom we immediately made friends and went to play a concert for the day of astronautics in Barnaul. We really liked the name, and we, who then listened to a huge amount of construction and various music as a whole, generated a bunch of all kinds of pieces that had long wanted to be realized somewhere-in particular, constantly returning to the idea of ​​creating a large 108-minute play, which would compositionally relate to Yuri Gagarin's flight. This number of ideas then crushed us, since it was impossible to give them all life in the quality in which we wanted. And, of course, there were also their own projects, groups, studies, work and other everyday affairs, which invariably bring their adjustments to the life of every person. Therefore, the "Cosmonautics Day" then stalled for several years.

Nevertheless, all this time we continued to make some sketches and blanks, and they eventually resulted in a concept together to make one release together once a year, without excessive monumentality and obligations that we cannot fulfill. Neither time nor distance interfere with the project (in 2013, Vladimir moved from Novosibirsk to St. Petersburg. - S.M .), and for me this is an excellent tradition that allows you to be with friends. Over time, we abstracted a little from space themes, but the name of the project and date always help us to keep in touch with it.

The music is different, because we are very different, and we do not have any clear process of work as such. Usually, everyone always has some sketches, outlines and ideas in reserve-when we begin to discuss that it would be nice to start preparing a release for the next year, someone can immediately lay out a ready-made idea, and others to catch it. Once we decided to just gather at the threesome rehearsal point and, on the move, record a living “Pankovsky” album. Another time, Yegor discovered the magical properties of the equalizer of the “surf” and conceptually built and made the entire release himself - and there is no problem in this, because we always understand each other. And even when someone has a blockage and for some reason he cannot add anything this year, the rest will support it-and the release will happen, no matter what. For me, this sense of support, connection with Yegor and Vital, perhaps the most important thing in this project, is most important than anything else.

By the way, in the fall of 2017, one Briton wrote to Yegor, spoke a bunch of everything pleasant and offered to come to Novosibirsk in March 2018 to participate in the “Cosmonautics Day - 2018”. Perhaps everything would have happened, but Yegor was just in the army in 2017-2018, so it did not grow together. So we do not have some kind of fundamental position that limits or, conversely, welcomes the participation of other musicians. No internal restrictions regarding the sound of music that we do ourselves, too - rather, on the contrary. “Cosmonautics Day” - in fact, our only point of contact is three, and it is always unique. Here we can realize some ideas that will not appear in other places. During the existence of the project, Yegor and I had a parallel to Kometjakten , we developed solo projects, I played sweet and participated in all sorts of improvisation, Vitalya was actively engaged in DJing and dance electronic music. But none of this prevented us at some point to make the cast of our joint state and release it under the name "Cosmonautics Day".
