On April 16, the Supreme Court of Crimea rejected the appeal against the arrest of the defendants in the second Simferopol case of Hizb ut-Tahrir. This was reported by the movement "Crimean Solidarity" with reference to the lawyer Emine Avamileva.
On March 11, the Kyiv District Court of Simferopol extended the detention of Osman Arifmemetov, Rustem Sheikhaliev and Medzhit Abdurakhmanov in pre-trial detention until March 26 and 27. They are accused of involvement in terrorist activities (Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code) in connection with their religious beliefs - belonging to the Muslim organization Hizb ut-Tahrir. The defense appealed this decision, but on appeal the court of second instance upheld the arrest.
Emine Avamileva told how things are with the prevention of coronavirus infection. “There [in the pre-trial detention center - OVD-Info ] certain preventive measures are being taken, measures are a mask, some disinfecting procedures, but this is not enough to prevent the development of chronic diseases that our clients have. Therefore, it is quite difficult to say that their health is at a high level. It is relatively satisfactory. That is why, due to the state of health and due to the fact that the investigation justified its petition exclusively hypothetically, we asked the court to apply another measure of restraint to them in the form of keeping them under house arrest, ”Krymskaya Solidarity reports the lawyer’s words.
