Putin fired Deputy Head of the Investigative Committee Alexander Sorochkin

Deputy Chairman of the Investigative Committee - Head of the Main Military Investigation Directorate Alexander Sorochkin was relieved of his post and dismissed from military service. This is stated in the officially published decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Sorochkin turned 62 in March. He went to work for the Investigative Committee after serving in the state security agencies. Sorochkin has held the position of deputy head of the Investigative Committee and head of the main military investigative department since April 2011. Since 2016, he was also considered the acting first deputy head of the Investigative Committee, writes Kommersant.

On April 22, Vladimir Putin also appointed Eduard Kaburneev as deputy chairman of the Investigative Committee. Previously, he was the head of the main investigative department of the Investigative Committee. In March, he headed the Investigative Committee’s working group to combat fake news about the coronavirus.

According to Kommersant, in his new position Kaburneev will oversee the work of the Main Investigation Department and the Main Directorate for Investigation of Particularly Important Cases, as well as a number of investigative units in the regions. All these functions were previously performed by Igor Krasnov, who became the Prosecutor General of Russia in January.
