Six protesters in Ingushetia received tougher punishment

Aslan Aushev, Adam Badiev, Zelimkhan Baphoev, Akhmed Nalgiev, Gelani Khamkhoev and Zubeir Khamkhoev received from 1 year and 6 months to 1 year and 10 months in a penal colony under the article on the use of violence against security forces (part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code). Activists appealed this decision.

The appeal court tightened the sentence. “The terms were left the same as those set by the court of first instance, but the settlement colony was replaced with a more strict regime - a general regime colony, and the motive of political hostility was added,” Memorial said.

The day before, on April 22, the sentences were tightened for two Ingush activists who had already been released.

In March 2019, protests began in Magas over an agreement on the border between Chechnya and Ingushetia, according to which the republic lost part of the border territories. The protest ended in clashes with security forces who tried to disperse the demonstrators.
