Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov signed a decree recommending that local residents wear medical masks or respirators in public places from May 1 to May 11. The document was published on the website of the regional government.
According to the decree, residents of the Moscow region must "strictly comply" with the recommendations. Common areas include retail outlets, pharmacies, public transport including taxis, businesses that continue to operate, and medical organizations.
Vorobyov spoke about the intention to introduce a “mask regime” the day before. It also operates in a number of other Russian regions, including the Rostov Oblast , Krasnodar and Khabarovsk Territories.
The Moscow region is in second place after Moscow among Russian regions in terms of the number of cases and deaths from COVID-19. In the region, 12,507 people out of 114,431 in the country became infected with coronavirus, 109 died (in Russia - 1169). 458 patients in the Moscow region out of 13,220 in the country have recovered.
