The head of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency, Veronika Skvortsova, estimated at 40% the proportion of doctors working with coronavirus patients who have psychological problems due to stress.

“According to our data, approximately 40% of all doctors who work in the “red zone” already have problems with the perception of stress, have various neurotic factors,” Skvortsova said in an interview with the Rossiya 24 TV channel. Another 10% suffer from depression and the same number have anxiety and sleep disturbances at night, she added.

“Psychasthenia comes, emotional burnout, emotional fatigue, sometimes apathy,” the former head of the Ministry of Health explained. Health workers also experience depersonalization when they stop “seeing the patient as a separate individual”: “There is a feeling of facelessness of those people with whom you have to work, which naturally reduces the effectiveness of work.”
