The court fined a participant in the march in support of Golunov. Almost a year after the event

On April 20, 2020, the Golovinsky District Court fined Olga Verbovaya, a participant in the march in support of journalist Ivan Golunov, 10 thousand rubles. Verbovaya herself reported this to OVD-Info. The judicial act is at the disposal of the project.

Verbovaya was found guilty under the article on participation in an action that interfered with the operation of infrastructure (Part 6.1, Article 20.2 of the Administrative Code). Verbovaya learned that the meeting following the arrest at the march had taken place only on May 12, 2020, when she received a copy of the resolution. At the same time, the judicial act states that the march participant was allegedly “notified of the place and time of the court hearing,” and the case, due to restrictive measures taken in Moscow due to the spread of coronavirus, was decided to be considered in Verbova’s absence.

  • Investigative journalist Ivan Golunov was accused of trying to sell drugs. He said that drugs were planted on him. During the first days after Golunov's arrest, journalists and activists held pickets in his defense. On June 11, the case was dropped . The next day, a previously planned march in support of Golunov took place, during which at least 530 people were detained .
  • A criminal case was eventually opened against the police officers who detained Golunov for abuse of office (286 of the Criminal Code). Four police officers are now in pre-trial detention, and another is under house arrest.
