Human rights activists asked the SK to check the Ingush clinic where female circumcision for girls

The Legal Initiative project sent an appeal to the Investigative Committee on Ingushetia with a request to check the Aibolit medical and diagnostic center, where in June 2019 a ten-year-old girl conducted a crippling operation. This was reported by MBH Media in the "Legal Initiative", which provides legal assistance to the mother of the child.

According to the report received from the official account of the clinic on Instagram, the institution conducts operations on female circumcision worth 2 thousand rubles. The clinic said that this was done "according to the testimony and at the request of the parents."

The lawyer of the “Legal Initiative” Tatyana Savvina said that if it is confirmed by the fact that operations in the clinic are carried out, then to criminal liability for harm to health (Article 111, 115 of the Criminal Code), other sexual actions (Article 132 of the Criminal Code), as well as the provision of services that do not meet the requirements of safety (Article 238 of the Criminal Code), not only doctors and medical staff, but also the management of the clinic.

The Legal Initiative noted that, according to universally recognized international standards, crippling operations on female genitalia can lead to extreme negative consequences for
reproductive, psychological and sexual health of women. The United Nations and WHOs permanently called such crippling operations a violation of the right to health and freedom from torture, added to the project.
