Moscow City Health: more than 60% of patients with COVID-19 died from other causes

The Moscow Department of Health reported that more than 60% of patients with COVID-19 died “from obvious alternative causes.” This is stated on the Moscow City Health website .

The department noted that in Russia, postmortem autopsies of the deceased with suspected coronavirus are carried out in 100% of cases, so post-mortem diagnoses and causes of death “are extremely accurate.”

“Over 60% of deaths occurred from obvious alternative causes, such as vascular accidents (myocardial infarction and stroke), malignant diseases of the fourth stage (essentially palliative patients), leukemia, systemic diseases with the development of organ failure (for example, amyloidosis and end-stage renal failure ) and other incurable fatal diseases,” the department reported.

The Financial Times analyzed data on deaths from all causes in Moscow and St. Petersburg and data on COVID-19 and concluded that in Russia the number of deaths from coronavirus may exceed official data. The Ministry of Health did not explain the increase in mortality, but doubted the quality of the publication’s analysis.

Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, commenting on the FT material, said that the mortality rate from coronavirus in the Russian Federation is 7.6 times lower than in the world as a whole. She added that Russia has never manipulated official statistics, Interfax reported.
