The charitable foundation “Center for Social Adaptation of St. Basil the Great” strives to help teenagers who find themselves in conflict with the law in time to realize responsibility for their lives and find their way to freedom, at peace with themselves and with society.
From the second to the fourth quarter of 2019, 39 pupils underwent rehabilitation courses at the Center . 24 teenagers were on an inpatient rehabilitation course, and 15 attended a social patronage group. 13 people successfully completed the course, 11 people were expelled at their own request or by decision of the pedagogical council, 15 continue the course.
Teenagers are enrolled in a rehabilitation course at the Center based on a court decision or a referral from the police. After moving to the Center, where the teenager will spend at least 9 months, his life changes seriously. Resumption of education at school or college becomes mandatory . Also, the young man must decide how he will continue his education and which college to go to. All students are required to comply with the daily routine and strict rules of behavior at the Center.
The social patronage group is attended for six months by teenagers who have completed the basic course and by teenagers who have not committed serious offenses but are at risk . They live at home and come to the Center 3-4 times a week for mandatory classes.
Mandatory for all students of the Center are classes with a psychologist, psychotherapist, support groups for growing up, theater training, sports events, and a film discussion club. Everything possible is done to ensure that the teenager himself decides not to return to a criminal lifestyle. During this time, 371 lessons were conducted with 21 volunteer tutors , and 31 teenagers received their help . The psychologist conducted 249 consultations with students and their parents and 17 group sessions, the psychotherapist - 92 .
Another 17 Discussion Film Clubs were held . Teenagers and Center volunteers watch films and discuss them. This teaches students to correctly formulate and defend their point of view, avoid conflicts and accept the opponent’s arguments.
One of the Center’s projects is the socio-cultural space “Simply” . Gradually it becomes the “face” of the Organization, because it is there that many visitors learn about what the Center does. “Prosto” is a coffee shop where students gain skills in working with professional equipment, and a space for holding events. The center tries to organize joint events for students and visitors of the coffee shop . Thus, the following were held: a course of four lectures by Alexandra Mamontova “Symbol, hero and action in the traditions of China and India”, a master class on making sachets and dry perfumes, a lecture on classical music, a meeting with the poet Alexei Bakulin, two concerts of the ensemble “Vasileostrovsky Harmonicas” "
