RBC received the Rosneft claim to the Moscow Arbitration Court, in which the company demands to recover 43 billion rubles of compensation for the harm of the reputation, allegedly caused by the heading of the material on the transfer of the oil asset in Venezansky Chop. The document is published on the website of the publication.
According to Rosneft, the heading questioned the fact of “alienation of Venezuelan assets for the perimeter of the group”, and the publication “created additional sanctions risks for the plaintiff, provoking additional sanctions policy regarding him, despite the actual termination of activity in Venezuela.”
The amount of the lawsuit in Rosneft explained the worst dynamics of the company's shares on the MICEX on the day of publication in comparison with the industry oil and gas index.
“We are delighted with an assessment of the influence of RBC on what is happening in the Russian and world markets and intend to continue to provide our audience with informed information that helps make decisions in business,” commented the claim by RBC, Nikolai Molibog.
Earlier, Rosneft filed a lawsuit against RBC to protect the business reputation due to the publication of the text on the transition of the Russian oil asset in Venezuela to control a private security company from Ryazan. According to the company, the statement expressed in the heading “Ryazan Chop received a share in the former Venezuelan project“ Rosneft ”supposedly deliberately distorted the essence of the transaction and“ misled the public, representatives of the market and regulators ”.
“The editors of RBC used a provocative statement by creating the impression of the previously announced transaction on the complete exit of Rosneft from a business in Venezuela, provoking a wave of misinformation in print and electronic media,” the press release said.
On May 14, Interfax, citing the Unified State Register of Legal Entities, published the news that the owner of the 80% of the National Oil Consortium, which owns a large oil asset in Venezuela, became the PN-Obrana-Ryazan chip. Previously, this security company was part of Rosneft, and at the end of April transferred to the ownership of Roszarubezhneft. Then, on the website of the RBC, the news “Roszarubezhneft received the former Venezuelan asset of Rosneft through Chop”. Initially, it really was entitled “The Ryazan Chop received a share in the former Venezuelan project“ Rosneft ”.
