In Russia, as of May 22, 101 doctors died with COVID-19. This was stated by the director of the department of public health, communications and medical examination of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Lyudmila Letnikova, TASS reports .
According to Letnikova, each region must fill out the register of doctors who died from COVID-19 online. The official noted that the register data will be verified with information from the Social Insurance Fund, which, in turn, relies on the “Memory List” and media data.
Doctors have been keeping their “Memory List” since the end of April, in which they indicate the names of doctors who died during the pandemic. There are currently 305 names on the list. The Mediazona publication conducted its own investigation, relying on the Memory List, and found that at least 186 health workers died from coronavirus in Russia. This is 16 times more than in six countries where the epidemic has reached comparable proportions - the USA, Spain, Italy, Germany, Great Britain and Iran.
At the same time, the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova believes that the mortality rate among Russian doctors during the coronavirus pandemic is practically no different from any other period.
