The Ministry of Health recommended not to include in the official statistics of morbidity and mortality people who tested positive for Covid, but without complaints . Almost a quarter of Russians consider the pandemic “an invention of interested parties,” 9.6% are confident that its danger is exaggerated. The Kremlin said that data on the high mortality rate of doctors in Russia “is not confirmed.” The doctors themselves maintain a “Memory List” , which already contains 311 names. According to Sberbank forecasts, a new peak of the pandemic may occur in July if people stop observing restrictions.
We update data on coronavirus in Russia daily. Here they are in the formof a map and table .
In the United States , 100 thousand people have died from coronavirus. In total, 355 thousand people have died in the world since the beginning of the pandemic. Since the beginning of March , 159 thousand more people have died in 24 European countries than expected during this period. Not all of these deaths are caused by the coronavirus. South Korea recorded 79 new cases of Covid - almost twice as many as a day ago. Restrictions began to be reintroduced in the country: museums, parks and art galleries were closed for two weeks. The UN estimates that the pandemic could lead to famine in Latin America, affecting 14 million people . The volume of foreign direct investment in European countries fell by a third : 25% of investment projects were postponed and 10% were cancelled.
We explain whether you need a computed tomography (CT) scan if you suspect you have Covid . CT in Russia is used much more often than recommended in the rest of the world, although it does not influence treatment tactics as much, especially in mild forms of the disease. A CT scan is needed to rule out or confirm another disease that may also cause shortness of breath. More details in our cards .
We tell you what people who lost their jobs during the crisis can receive from the state . The minimum unemployment benefitwill increase from one and a half thousand rubles to four and a half thousand . Anyone who lost their right to benefits after March 1 will have their payments extended for three months. Only members of the same household will be allowed to sit together, all spectators will be required to wear masks, and employees will be required to wear masks and gloves.
Journalist Ilya Azar was arrested for 15 days for a single picket . Formally, Azar violated the Moscow mayor’s ban on holding public events during the pandemic. Although at the picket in support of the creator of the public “Police Ombudsman” Vladimir Vorontsov and activist Viktor Nemytov, he stood with a poster far from people, wearing a mask and gloves. We spoke with Azar's lawyer Leonid Solovyov about the legality of the court's decision. Later, journalists Sergei Smirnov, Tatyana Felgenhauer, Alexander Plyushchev, Anastasia Lotareva and Victoria Ivleva came out with pickets in support of their colleague. All of them were detained . We demand the immediate release of Ilya Azar. More than 70 municipal deputies and Amnesty International made the same demands.
The “self-preservation mode” in Moscow will last a long time . The new term was invented by Sergei Sobyanin . “I’m afraid that the mode of self-preservation, these sanitary restrictions, will last a long time, until we get a vaccine,” the mayor said. The head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, said three weeks ago that we will have to live with restrictions all this time. Here's our guide to everything we know so far about vaccines. Spoiler: most likely, you will have to wait until 2021.
Matches of the Russian Football Championship will be held with spectators. Rospotrebnadzor allowed people to enter the stadium . But the stands should be filled no more than 10%. The championship is due to resume on June 21.
PS There is not much good news in this newsletter, so tell us what good things are happening to you while quarantine is around. And we will tell your stories to make us all feel better.
Here's what reader Yuri wrote to us:
We live in Hamburg, and everything is calm here. The quarantine was easy, because even at the peak of the epidemic you could walk with your family in parks and go to the Elbe. And also because everyone supported everyone and even the few who lost their jobs received significant assistance from the state.
Now almost everything has opened, even cafes and museums, although with minor restrictions. The children went to school. People began to smile at each other again, although this is not always visible through the mask.
Health and money to everyone, Yura.
We join in the wishes.
