In the video, the clergyman stated that “our spiritual leadership is closing churches, referring to a pseudo-pandemic,” and also cursed those who “encroach on the closure of churches.”

Law enforcement authorities began checking the video after Mikhail Tomatkin’s statement, MBKh Media quotes him: “I wrote an appeal, by the way, through the Internet reception, to check whether everyone is equal before the law, or whether the clergy are “more equal” than ordinary people. Under articles about extremism or fake news, people are imprisoned or fined regularly, but I don’t know of a single case where a clergyman of the Russian Orthodox Church was held accountable under these articles.”

Tomatkin clarified that Center E sent him a notification about the start of checking the video “for false information, calls for extremist activities, calls for the overthrow of the current government.”
