The oncologic dispensary of the Trans-Baikal Territory has stopped providing chemotherapy to patients with coronavirus

The Trans-Baikal Regional Oncology Dispensary, by order of the chief sanitary doctor, suspended all types of treatment for patients with coronavirus, including chemotherapy. This was reported on the website of the regional Ministry of Health.

The department noted that treatment for cancer patients who have confirmed COVID-19 is contraindicated. They are kept in isolated buildings of the oncology clinic under round-the-clock medical supervision. Patients who were treated at the oncology center and who were diagnosed with coronavirus will remain in the institution. They will not be transferred to the single-hospital hospital of the first city hospital of Chita yet.

“Such cases” contacted the Russian Ministry of Health for comment; at the time of publication, no response was received.

The regional Ministry of Health did not specify how many people in the oncology clinic became infected with the coronavirus. But on May 16, it was reported that the facility was quarantined after 66 patients tested positive for coronavirus. All patients with COVID-19 were transferred to a single hospital. The departments of the oncology dispensary were disinfected. In total, more than 360 people were examined.

On April 6, at a government meeting, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin assured that everyone who needs emergency and urgent medical care will continue to receive it: “Patients with serious diseases, including oncology, diseases of the cardiovascular and endocrine systems, and those , who are currently on dialysis will continue the treatment they need.”
