In the Khabarovsk Territory, a Jehovah's Witness was sent to a pre-trial detention center for two months

The Central District Court of Khabarovsk sent Yegor Baranov, a follower of Jehovah's Witnesses, to a pre-trial detention center for two months. This was reported on a website covering the persecution of believers.

“[Baranov] has established strong religious views and is one of the leaders of this religious organization,” the court noted in the decision on the selection of a preventive measure.

Security forces came to 19-year-old Yegor Baranov as part of a series of searches in the city of Vyazemsky on May 27. Then searches were carried out at the homes of at least seven local believers.

As it became known, one of the believers, 68-year-old Yen Sen Lee, was beaten by operatives that day. During a search in his apartment, an operative hit him in the side, twisted his arms and handcuffed him. Yong Sen Li's wife, seeing this, lost consciousness.

During interrogation at the FSB, the believer was asked to incriminate himself. He was released home only 13 hours after his arrest. He was given a written undertaking not to leave the place because he was suspected of “organizing the activities of an extremist organization” and “involving other persons” in it.

• On April 20, 2017, the Supreme Court recognized the “Administrative Center of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia” as an extremist organization, liquidated it and banned its activities in Russia. In August, all Jehovah's Witnesses organizations were added to the list of prohibited organizations. After this, a stream of criminal cases against representatives of the confession began.
