RIA Novosti: new criminal cases have been opened against the creator of the “Police Ombudsman” public

A criminal case was opened against the creator of the public “Police Ombudsman” Vladimir Vorontsov for extortion (Part 1 of Article 163 of the Criminal Code) and illegal trafficking and production of pornographic materials by a group of persons (Part 3 of Article 242 of the Criminal Code), RIA Novosti reports with reference to the chief press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Vladimir Vasenin.

An extortion case was opened on the basis of a statement from a woman whom Vorontsov allegedly forced to send “personal videos of pornographic content,” after which he demanded 30 thousand rubles, threatening to publish them. “The applicant transferred the specified amount to the attacker,” the message says. A similar press release was published on the website of the capital department. It mentions, without indicating Vorontsov’s name, that the case was opened on May 27 “against the administrator of the Internet community”; he is in the status of a suspect.

In addition, according to a press release from the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, on May 28, a case was opened against Vorontsov for illegal trafficking and production of pornographic materials by a group of persons (Part 3 of Article 242 of the Criminal Code). In early May, Vorontsov was arrested in the case of large-scale extortion (Part 2 of Article 163 of the Criminal Code) for non-distribution of personal photographs of the former Moscow policeman, which were published. The examination recognized the published photographs as pornographic.

On May 28, the Baza telegram channel, without citing sources, reported that a criminal case had been opened against Vladimir Vorontsov for insulting a government official (Article 319 of the Criminal Code) in connection with a publication in a telegram. This message has not been officially confirmed.

Vorontsov’s lawyer Sergei Badamshin commented in a telegram on messages about new criminal cases against the founder of the “Police Ombudsman” public:

The Moscow Prosecutor's Office does not want to quarrel with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and does not withdraw the case from the Main Directorate of the Main Directorate of Internal Affairs for transfer to the Investigative Committee for the purpose of an objective investigation, without refusing, but prolonging and delaying the consideration of defense complaints in accordance with Article 124 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Which surprises even the judges of the Moscow City Court.

All this is more reminiscent of the reprisal against Vorontsov than at least some semblance of a trial.

• On May 7,they came to Vorontsov’s apartment with a search, and the security forces entered the apartment through a window, descending from the roof on ropes; the next day, the court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention. Vorontsov was charged under the article on extortion committed by a group of persons on a large scale (clauses “a” and “d”, part 2 of article 163 of the Criminal Code). According to investigators, Vorontsov demanded 300 thousand rubles from a police officer for not distributing intimate photographs, which then ended up in the public domain.

• Earlier, on April 14, a search was carried out at Vorontsov’s home and in the apartment of his wife’s parents as part of a criminal case about distributing fake news about coronavirus (Article 207.1 of the Criminal Code), then he was interrogated as a witness. The reason was a deleted publication on VKontakte that cadets and officers of a military educational institution, in which there were allegedly many cases of coronavirus, were being forced to do exercises.
