The Ministry of Health has registered the first Russian drug against coronavirus. It will not go on sale

The Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation has registered the first Russian drug Avifavir for the treatment of coronavirus. This was announced by the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), which launched the drug jointly with the ChemRar group of companies.

“Avifavir is the first Russian direct antiviral drug that has shown its effectiveness in clinical trials and disrupts the mechanisms of coronavirus reproduction. The drug has been studied quite well, as it has been in circulation in Japan since 2014 against severe forms of influenza,” the RDIF press release says.

In a commentary to Interfax, representatives of the fund added that Avifavir would not go on free sale in pharmacies. The medicine can only be used in hospitals under medical supervision. In addition, the drug is strictly prohibited for use by pregnant women and during the period of family planning, the RDIF noted.
