In Paris, 19 thousand people staged a rally against police violence. The protest escalated into clashes with gendarmes

Several thousand people staged a rally near the building of one of the courts in Paris in memory of 24-year-old black Frenchman Adam Traor, who died after being detained in 2016.

According to BFM TV, citing a source in the police, more than 19,000 people came to the rally. Le Figaro cites other police data - about 15 thousand participants.

Two hours after the start of the rally, clashes broke out between some protesters and gendarmes. The police responded with tear gas. Some demonstrators set fire to garbage and old furniture. The protesters also blocked a section of the Paris ring road near the place where the rally took place.

Actions in memory of Adam Traor were also held in Marseille, Lille and Lyon.

Adama Traore died on July 19, 2016, two hours after he was detained in the commune of Beaumont-sur-Oise near Paris. During the detention, three gendarmes crushed the man from above, because of which he did not have enough air. He was taken to the gendarmerie unconscious. Traore died after unsuccessful attempts by doctors to resuscitate him.

The action in Moscow was held after the special forces of the Russian Guard killed a 27-year-old man suspected of stealing four rolls of wallpaper in Yekaterinburg on May 31.
