Moscow police detain over 20 people protesting police violence

Update: Police have detained more than 20 people, MBKh Media reports .

Police officers have begun detaining participants in single-person pickets against police violence taking place near the Moscow Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs building on Petrovka, OVD-Info reports.

Among those detained are also those who went out to picket in support of the arrested journalist Ilya Azar.

The protest against police violence was held after the Russian National Guard special forces shot and killed a 27-year-old man suspected of stealing four rolls of wallpaper in Yekaterinburg on May 31.

As eyewitnesses told Meduza, pickets against police abuse are also taking place in Yekaterinburg.

• Since May 28, pickets have been held near the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Moscow on Petrovka in support of journalist Ilya Azar, who was arrested for 15 days due to a solitary picket held in support of the creator of the public page “Police Ombudsman” Vladimir Vorontsov .
