General Haftar agreed to negotiations on a truce in Libya

The Libyan General Caliph Haftar, opposing the government in Tripoli, agreed to resume negotiations on the ceasefire.

This was announced by the UN auxiliary mission in Libya (UNSMIL), noting that the Contacts according to the and the national consent government (PNL) supported by the world community. We are talking about negotiations in the Five Plus Five format - with the participation of five high -ranking military from each of the warring parties.

The Libyan National Army, led by Haftar, based in the east of the country, has been conducting an offensive since April last year with the aim of capturing the capital of Tripoli, where the PNL is located. In recent weeks, hostilities have been noticeably activated. The PNL forces, with the support of Turkey, were replaced by Haftar detachments from a number of districts in the north-west of the country. But on the eve of the Libyan National Army (LNA), which enjoys the support of the united Arab Emirates, Egypt and Russia, announced that she managed to win part of the territories, writes Reuters.

Moscow officially does not support any of the parties to the conflict. Earlier, the Turkish leader Recep Erdogan has repeatedly claimed that about two thousand mercenaries from Russia are operating in Libya. And the African command of the US Armed Forces last week stated that Russia recently transferred to Libya at least 14 combat aircraft that are located in the LNA air base in the central part of the country.

• Since the beginning of this year, the coordination of the ceasefire in Libya has been declared twice, but the fighting and shelling continued. In the second half of May, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a message that Moscow and Ankara were called to immediately end fire and political settlement of the conflict under the auspices of the UN.
