Novgorod: the court canceled the mitigation of punishment for the ex-deputy

The court in the Novgorod region canceled the mitigation of punishment for the former deputy of the regional Duma Sergey Vyatkin, convicted of embezzlement. This was reported by the prosecutor's office of the region.

Sergei Vyatkin was convicted in May 2019 for hired three pensioners who really did not work. He was assigned a salary of 1.8 million rubles, which Vyatkin took. The ex-deputy was sentenced to one and a half years in prison, he had to serve his sentence in a colony-settlement.

Vyatkin left 1/3 of the punishment, and then went to court with a motion to replace the sentence with a milder. The court allowed to replace the remaining time of punishment with correctional labor, 15% of the earnings was held by the width of the state.

The prosecutor's office of the region appealed the court decision, considering that "the goals of punishment against the convicted Vyatkin were not achieved." The Judicial Collegium for Criminal Cases of the Novgorod Regional Court granted the claim of the prosecutor's office.
