“Nothing bad is likely to happen.” Sobyanin on partial lifting of quarantine

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin does not expect the situation with the COVID-19 epidemic to worsen after June 1, when some restrictions were eased in the city.

“Based on how we got out of the tough restrictive regime, nothing bad is likely to happen,” Sobyanin said on Rossiya 24.

According to him, Moscow “smoothly moves from one stage [of lifting the quarantine] to another, preventing bursts [of the disease].”

“Despite the ongoing epidemic, we still need to start living normal lives. Sanitary restrictions will remain for more than one month, but <...> the work of restaurants, hotels, the tourism business and [holding] weddings - all this must be returned step by step, ”Sobyanin believes.

He added that Muscovites "missed the street holidays, but it's too early to talk about it."

• From June 1, Muscovites were allowed to walk within a radius of two kilometers from their homes according to the schedule drawn up by the mayor's office. Residential buildings were divided into six groups, each of which was assigned certain days of the week for walking.
• From the same date, non-food stores and consumer services businesses that do not require long-term contact with customers began to return to work in Moscow.
