The court ordered the Ministry of Defense to pay 4 million rubles to the mother of the peripheral training ground

The court in the Leningrad Region ordered the Ministry of Defense of Russia to pay four million rubles to the mother of a 20-year-old ordinary who died at a training ground during tank shooting. Radio Liberty was reported to the human rights organization “ Zone of Law ”.

The incident occurred on September 7, 2017 at a military training ground in the Leningrad region. In preparation for the exercises, the soldiers were placed by officers in the sector of direct defeat with tank fire, not designated by red flags.

As a result of a shot, 20-year-old and a fragmentation shell, 20-year-old Andrei Wittih, died on the spot. Three more conscripts received severe injuries, one of them torn off his hand.

In December 2019, the injured soldiers sued six million rubles of compensation from the Ministry. The military court in Novgorod sentenced two officers found guilty of the incident, by conditional terms.
