On Thursday morning, Norilsk Nickel shares became the drop leader on the Moscow Exchange. On the news about the details of a major diesel spill at Norilsk Nickel's CHPP-3, the company's shares fell by almost 7.5% by 13.05 Moscow time.
“The situation seems to be somewhat more serious than in 2016 and 2018, when the local river turned red due to the discharge of pollutants from Norilsk Nickel,” RBC quotes a review of Aton analysts.
During that period, the company spent several million dollars to clean up the consequences and paid a small fine. Experts believe that it is still difficult to predict the amount of fines for an accident at CHPP-3.
