Fenn spoke about the chest with precious stones, gold coins and jewelry in 2010 in autobiography. He decided to hide the treasure in the late 1990s, when he was diagnosed with cancer. Thus, he was going to leave a special memory of himself. The development of the disease was stopped, but Fenn still realized the idea with a treasure.

According to Fenn, a man who found a chest contacted him. In confirmation of the find, he sent a photo. He did not want to reveal his identity. Fenn added that, according to the treasure hunter, he was helped by a poem-linking from a collector’s book.

In total, the book had nine keys - only having solved them all, one could find a treasure. Thousands of people were engaged in searches. At least four treasure hunters died. Fenn said that the chest is in a safe place, but, nevertheless, urged to be careful when searching.

Answering the CBS question, how he feels after the treasure was found, Fenn said: “I don’t know. This is half a joy, half is the sadness of the fact that the story has ended. ”
