An administrative case was opened against a Syzran deputy because of a joke on Twitter

The police of Syzran (Samara region) opened an administrative case under the article on the abuse of freedom of the mass media (Article 13.15 of the Code of Administrative Offenses) against the local deputy from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Alexander Chernov. He himself told OVD-Info about this.

According to Alexander Chernov, on June 8, a policeman called him and set up a meeting at which he questioned the deputy about his recent tweet. Chernov was forced to explain in detail what he meant in the joking message. A law enforcement officer told Chernov that the police suspected him of abusing the freedom of the media and planned to conduct an investigation.

• On June 5, the Oktyabrsky District Court of Samara dismissed the administrative case against the deputy of the provincial Duma Mikhail Matveev, who was accused of spreading a fake about the coronavirus.
• Across Russia, police officers massively draw up protocols, initiate criminal cases and demand that access to content about the coronavirus be restricted in connection with the operation of the law prohibiting the dissemination of “knowingly false information”.
