The Rostov Regional Court extended house arrest for two Jehovah's Witnesses

On June 5, the Rostov Regional Court extended the house arrest of two Jehovah's Witnesses from Rostov-on-Don. This was reported by the Caucasian Knot publication.

Believer Ruslan Alyev will remain under house arrest until September 5, and Semyon Baybaka until July 19.

Ruslan Alyev is accused of participation in the activities of an extremist organization (Part 2 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code). He is charged with participating in religious services, making donations and campaigning. Aliyev has been kept under house arrest since June 11, 2019.

Semyon Baybak is accused under two articles - under the article on participation in the activities of an extremist organization (Part 2 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code) and under the article on financing an extremist organization (Part 1 of Article 282.3 of the Criminal Code). Like Alyev, the believer has been under house arrest for almost a year.

On June 19, the Third Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction in Sochi on June 17 recognized the decision to extend the preventive measure for Ruslan Alyev as legal and justified. “Caucasian Knot” writes about this.

• At the end of May, the Rostov Regional Court extended the detention in pre-trial detention center of three other Jehovah's Witnesses, father and son Vilen and Arsen Avanesov and Alexander Parkov.
• On April 20, 2017, the Supreme Court recognized the “Administrative Center of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia” as an extremist organization, liquidated it and banned its activities in Russia. In August, all Jehovah's Witnesses organizations were added to the list of prohibited organizations. After this, a stream of criminal cases against representatives of the confession began.
• In February 2019, the court handed down its first sentence with real imprisonment - Danish citizen Dennis Christensen was sentenced to six years in prison, his complaint was accepted for consideration by the ECHR. According to the Memorial Human Rights Center, criminal cases have been opened in Russia against at least 327 Jehovah's Witnesses. Several dozen believers were sentenced to real terms.
