The Crimean court extended the arrest of nine defendants in the second Simferopol case of Hizb ut-Tahrir

On June 9, the Supreme Court of Crimea extended until September 15 the arrest of nine defendants in the second Simferopol Hizb ut-Tahrir case. with reference to Crimean Solidarity . This is reported by Krym.Realii

Lawyer Siyar Panic said that "such a decision is contrary to the law, since the preventive measure can be extended up to 12 months in exceptional cases."

“The investigator motivated the need to extend the large volume of investigative actions, but this is not exceptional, because a large investigation team has been created in this case. For almost a year and a half, things have not really moved forward. Even if we proceed from their logic, the Code of Criminal Procedure does not allow extending the term for more than 12 months. Of course, we will appeal within three days,” the lawyer commented on the decision of the court.

The court remanded Yashara Muedinova, Serveta Gazieva, Dzhemilya Gafarova, Osman Arifmemetova, Ruslana Suleimanova, Shabana Umerova, Rustema Seithalilova, Vladlena Abdulkadyrova and Raima Aivazova under custody.

In various regions of Russia, as well as in the Crimea, alleged members of the party are being prosecuted for the activities of a terrorist organization. The accused are sentenced to various terms only on the basis that they held meetings and read religious literature. On the territory of Ukraine, the activities of Hizb ut-Tahrir are permitted.
• According to a number of experts, Hizb ut-Tahrir is wrongfully recognized as a terrorist organization, since its members in Russia have never advocated violence or prepared terrorist acts. According to the Memorial Human Rights Center, as of April 16, there were 301 people on the incomplete list of those persecuted in cases of Hizb ut-Tahrir. Among them, 65 are on the Crimean peninsula.
