In the Arkhangelsk region, the temporarily acting head of the region Alexander Tsybulsky declared the nomination, the party "United Russia" supported his candidacy. In Komi, the temporary head Vladimir Uyba also said that he plans to participate in the elections. The current head of the Leningrad region, Alexander Drozdenko, did not exclude that he could go for another term. On June 10, he must meet with President Vladimir Putin.

The head of Komi Sergey Gaplykov and the governor of the Arkhangelsk region Igor Orlov left their posts on the same day - April 2. The media connected their resignations with the epidemiological situation in the coronavirus in the regions and the position on the landfill at the ShiES station, against which local activists opposed.
