A court in Crimea extended the arrests of five more defendants in the Hizb ut-Tahrir case.

On June 10, the Supreme Court of Crimea extended the detention of five defendants in the second Simferopol Hizb ut-Tahrir case for three months. This was reported on Facebook by the Crimean Solidarity movement.

Medzhit Abdurakhmanov, Tofig Abdulgaziev, Bilyal Adilov, Enver Ametov, Bekirov Remzi were left under arrest until September 15. The meeting on the extension of the preventive measure for Seyran Murtaz was to be held the next day.

“The investigator in his petition indicates the same arguments: the severity of the charges brought, the possibility of hiding from the investigation, the large amount of work that needs to be done,” says Crimean Solidarity lawyer Yunus Refat. - We focused the attention of the court on the fact that the investigating authorities did not provide any evidence that our clients could interfere with the investigation. No evidence was presented that our clients were involved in any illegal actions. As expected, all our arguments were heard, but not heard.

A day earlier, the same court extended the arrests of nine more defendants in the second Simferopol case of Hizb ut-Tahrir. In total, 24 residents of the Crimean peninsula appear in the case. All of them are Crimean Tatars. They are charged with articles on organizing the activities of a terrorist organization (part 1 of article 205.5 of the Criminal Code) and participation in it (part 2 of article 205.5 of the Criminal Code).

• The Islamist party Hizb ut-Tahrir has been recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia. In various regions of Russia, as well as in the Crimea, alleged members of the party are being prosecuted for the activities of a terrorist organization. The accused are sentenced to various terms only on the basis that they held meetings and read religious literature. On the territory of Ukraine, the activities of Hizb ut-Tahrir are allowed.
• According to a number of experts, Hizb ut-Tahrir is wrongfully recognized as a terrorist organization, since its members in Russia have never advocated violence or prepared terrorist acts. According to the Memorial Human Rights Center, as of June 11, there were 307 people on the incomplete list of those persecuted in cases of Hizb ut-Tahrir. Among them, 69 are on the Crimean peninsula.
