Polytechnic University launched a new season of the inclusive program “Different people - a new museum”

On June 10, the new season of the “Different People - New Museum” program began at the Polytechnic Museum. A series of discussions, lectures and workshops explores the topic of inclusion in a modern science museum.

The public program is divided into thematic blocks. Thus, in the “Tools of Inclusion” block, Polytechnic employees will discuss with scientists, researchers and people with disabilities how scientific knowledge becomes accessible and what a modern science museum needs to involve a variety of visitors.

Lectures and discussions in the section “Universal Design in Education” will include discussions of current world and Russian practices in the field of inclusive education, which will become material for the development of future museum programs. The “Engagement” block is dedicated to supporting employees of cultural institutions facing burnout.

“For us, as a scientific museum, it is important to establish communication between scientists, researchers and people with very different life experiences,” says Vera Shengelia, deputy director of the Polytechnic Museum for work with visitors. “What language can people with disabilities speak with scientists, and scientists with people with disabilities? What kind of inclusion can there be in a science museum?”

The Polytechnic University is developing an inclusive program “ Different people - a new museum”, one of the goals of which is to include people with disabilities in dialogue with museums and cultural institutions. In 2019, an accessibility council was created at the Polytechnic Museum - an inclusive museum community, whose members included people with various forms of disabilities, activists and representatives of NGOs.
